Xerox DocuMate 4830 Scanner Driver. The Xerox DocuMate 4830 scanner does not always provide correct results. Even with negatives of the same film strip you have to try a little to achieve the best result in the individual pictures. I'm talking about the color or backlight correction, etc. Here it always takes a little more time to get the most out of the negatives. But I am not a professional and use the device especially in the private sector. What bothers me, however, is that the scanned images are saved correctly only after closing the scan program. Only then you can look at them and if necessary change the settings and test again. This detour -> quit the program, view the picture and if necessary compare with others, restart the program, rescan, close the program, etc really annoys me. I also can not understand why the scanned images are not output immediately. But this Xerox DocuMate 4830 scanner still gives good results for my purposes. Nevertheless, sometimes minor artifacts occur in the scans. Sometimes the device does not manage to get rid of scratches or dirt or minor bugs properly. But thanks to appropriate image editing software (not included!) You can eliminate these errors, if it bothers you. I seem to have an eye for it, because many in my environment hardly bother with the small aberrations or do not see them at all.

For some of my negative strips, I made myself extra film holder. With APS films, none of the supplied film holders work and I had to think of an alternative. Likewise, the supplied film holders are only suitable for cut film strips with 4-5 images (I speak about the usual 35er films). I still have old negative film rolls with 30-40 photos. I can not clamp these in the existing film holders, because then they would be kinked in some places. Also, there is the problem that there is no proper calibration, when the film strip at the top over the small window of the film holder protrudes. There were always completely wrong scan results for me. Here, too, an alternative had to be made and tinkered. It is a pity that there are no real film holders for this. But after a few attempts, I am satisfied with mine and the results of the scan with cut 35mm films are sometimes even better than with the attached film holders. The slide holder is also not ideal. Some of my very old slides are of different sizes and thus "wobble" a bit in the holder. Thus, they are sometimes wrong and need to be repositioned by hand. A small plastic spring on the edge could easily solve the problem. Otherwise, the scanner gives good results, although in some cases it is more time consuming. Since this is my only negative scanner, I can not make comparisons to other devices. For my purposes (save old private photos), the device but completely enough and I usually let it work alongside.
