HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile Printer Driver. We're all on the go, but if we want to print, scan, or copy a document, it's usually time to go home. Where this is not really an option, the HP OfficeJet 250 offers a solution: it's a small, portable, color inkjet MFP. It is perfect for mobile work specified: There is a color touch screen, support for wireless and Bluetooth networks and a lithium-ion battery included as standard. HP did a fine job with this MFP design. It's made from the usual matte black plastic, but it's thick stuff that should endure a few bumps. A lid keeps dust out of the paper feed openings, and when it's open, it creates a 50-page input tray and it seems to be stable, but its hinge is less, and it's a shame it does not snap into place. Typically for a portable printer, there is no output tray, but the paper exit is high enough to make it possible to print on carpet or a car seat. There are some nice details. The touch screen can be lifted or clicked into the printer. It's on a spring-loaded hinge, and double as the perfect damper you should neglect to lower it before you hit the lid closed. The paper size is adjusted automatically when you adjust the paper guides and a simple timekeeper that we can not believe we have never seen before. The touch screen is up to HP's usual excellent standard, responding well to typing and drawing gestures, and allows you to create shortcuts to commonly used functions.

Full-size MFPs are faster, but the OfficeJet 250 is still very handy. It manages 10.5 pages per minute (ppm) on our mono-text test, rising to 13.4ppm in draft mode. At 3.7ppm it was even pretty quick to print our complicated color graphics test. It was barely slowing down on battery power, producing black text at 9.7ppm. This MFP is too small for a flatbed scanner, so the original media must fit through the 10-sided automatic document feeder, which folds out at the front and ejects the scanned pages onto the printer's input tray. Scanning A4 paper was fine, but photos took a slight curve after passage. I pulled a single A4 mono after 21 seconds and a color page after 24 seconds. The OfficeJet 250 comes with HP's standard Oversimplified TWAIN scan interface, which does not support a resolution of 150 dots per inch (dpi) - one of our standard tests. We tested a 300dpi A4 scan at 34 seconds and a 600dpi, 6x4in photo scan at 49 seconds. The results were good for general office work, although the automatic exposure function tended to bleach the highlights - we preferred the results with it off. We've reviewed portable printers that use tiny, expensive cartridges, but for the OfficeJet 250 you can buy a black 600-sheet cartridge and a tri-color cartridge well for 415. Page of black text works on a fierce 3.2p, but an A4 page of mixed text and graphics should be about 8.4p. That's certainly not the cheapest, but it's not unreasonable.
