GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a powerful image editor with lots of features, one of the free alternatives that are most similar to the well known, but not free, PhotoShop. Gimp has several features: digital photo retouching, resizing photos, rotation and cropping, adjustments several (eg brightness), possibility to add special affections, also to remove elements of a photograph, combining multiple images and so on.
The changes applied to an image can be saved in various formats (JPEG, TIFF, GIF, PNG, TGA, PSD, BMP and others), not necessarily the original format, therefore can also be useful for converting images.
